RuneScape is a massively-multiplayer online game (MMOG), set in a fantasy world of warring races, ravaged landscapes and sinister powers. Having chosen an adventurer, players are free to find their role within it: to live by the sword and face hundreds of enemies, to further the storyline in RuneScape’s quests, or to train in any of a number of skills. RuneScape can be played directly in your browser, requiring no installation. It is also free to play, offering everyone the chance to explore the involving story and vast game area without paying a single gold piece! RuneScape also offers huge payed to play areas, filled with hundreds of new creaturen to slay. As of 16 December 2008, there are a total of 148 quests (not counting the introductory quest Learning the Ropes) with 18 free and 130 members-only quests (not including the sub-quests of Recipe for Disaster, the Odd Old Man’s wishlist from the Rag and Bone Man quest, or the new tutorial), offering a total of 276 quest points (this includes one additional quest point from completing the Odd Old Man’s wishlist). Free players can get up to 42 quest points. The last quest added to Free Players was Rune Mysteries with the release of Runescape 2 (Not including Swept Away and Myths of the White Lands, which were released for the Halloween and Christmas Event periods of 2008 for F2P for a limited time, respectively.). Futhermore there are 36 in game added minigames which give you a various range of experience (needed to level up in any skill) or items only to obtain through those minigames. The games vary from events where you have to team up with your friends from individuele games like Barrows; where you can loot some awesome armour.
With your RuneScape account you can also log in on www.funorb.com where you can play all kinds of games. Your enabled to talk to your RuneScape friends when you are playing games on furorb. RuneScape was originally released in 2001 as a simple browser-based MMORPG, but has grown significantly since then. A recent update puts RuneScape’s graphic and content quality on par with many client-based MMORPGs. A unique aspect of RuneScape is it doesn’t force players to choose a class, rather it allows them to customize their character however they like by working on their individual skills, which is a welcome change.
Because of the skill system, RuneScape is an extremely balanced game since all players can do all things. There are several combat related skills, including Attack, Strength, Hitpoints, Ranged and Magic. All these skills are accessible to both free and subscription members. However, “fletching”, which is required to make various types of arrows, is restricted to subscribers.
